On Wednesday, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins participated in the debut of Fear of God’s inaugural fashion line by walking in the event.
On Thursday, the five-time Pro Bowler posted a video to his social media accounts showing his experience on the runway and leading up to the event, which took place at the Hollywood Bowl. He appeared on the show wearing a black boxy work jacket and black trousers that matched the jacket and included the long drawstring that is the hallmark of the brand. A pair of gloves in a vibrant shade of blue and a sling purse were used to accessorise the outfit.
Hopkins’ teammate Isaiah Simmons, who placed several times on the Drip Check during the previous season, was present and shared video on his Instagram stories of the wide receiver walking the runway. Simmons competed in the Drip Check multiple times.
Fear of God, a brand that is owned by Jerry Lorenzo and designed by him, is a favourite among athletes for its one-of-a-kind combination of comfort and coolness.
Hopkins has been the focus of rumours regarding potential trades over this summer. He began his professional career with the Houston Texans, when he was selected in the first round of the NFL draught in 2013, but he has been with the Arizona Cardinals since the beginning of the 2020 season. After missing the first six games of the previous season due to a violation of the league’s rules on performance-enhancing drugs, he finished the year with 64 receptions, 717 yards, and three touchdowns.
Fear of God inaugural fashion reveals adidas pieces
Fear of God used the show to reveal pieces from its eighth collection and its highly-anticipated partnership with adidas. The brand announced the deal in December of 2020 with Lorenzo serving as head of adidas’ basketball division. The partnership also served as the introduction to Fear of God Athletics alongside the main luxury line and the popular Essentials offering.
Some of the pieces included adidas’ signature stripes down the side of tailored pants or at the neck of a crop top shirt. The Hollywood Bowl show also marked the unveiling of Fear of God’s sneaker with adidas. The mid-cut shoe appears to have a woven nylon base with the laces coming into the three stripes. The toe box is a contrasting color to the rest of the shoe.
