Woody Harrelson reveals Matthew McConaughey is his brother

During an interview on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Woody Harrelson acknowledged Matthew McConaughey’s allegation that they might be brothers by remarking, “there is some believability to that thought.”

“We want to go and (do the DNA) test, but for him, it’s much more big deal,” Harrelson added. He feels like he’s losing a father, I suppose. But I said, “No, you’re getting a new dad and a new sibling.”

Harrelson, like McConaughey, recalls speaking with “Ma Mac, Matthew’s legitimate mother,” who shared that she “knew…” Harrelson’s father.

I can’t even. I made a remark about regrets while we were in Greece, watching the U.S. team win the World Cup,” Harrelson recalled. To which she said, “And I remarked, ‘You know, it’s funny that my father has no regrets.’ And Ma Mac, who I’ve known for a long time, says, “I knew… your father.” And it was the ellipses that bothered me (or interested me) the most.

Harrelson elaborated, saying her pause was “filled with innuendo.” There was silence, and Colbert joked that it was a “pregnant pause.”

McConaughey speculated last week on the podcast “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa” that his mother and Harrelson’s father may have met in West Texas while his father was on furlough during the time of his parents’ second divorce.

To that end, Harrelson shared with Colbert, “The year of [Matthew’s] birth, nine months before, she was on a sabbatical from her relationship with his supposed father, Jim.”

The stars of “True Detective” will soon be seen in the Apple TV+ comedy series “Brother From Another Mother,” which is a fictionalised depiction of their own decades-long friendship that began when they met in 1997 on the set of Ron Howard’s “EDtv.”

Even though Theroux has told Entertainment Tonight that he would be astonished if McConaughey and Harrelson turned out to be half-brothers, Harrelson is due to feature in the HBO series “White House Plumbers” alongside Theroux. (Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN’s parent company, also owns HBO.)

Theroux speculated that Texas played a role, but he was unsure. “I can’t tell whether it’s just, like, their sort of slow Southern and Texas drawls or I think Texas figures in there somewhere,” he said. It’s all in the frame of mind. They always seem so perfectly at ease with one another.
